The former site of the First Branch of the Chinese People’s Anti-Japanese Military and Political University in North Gang Village, Tunliu County (formerly known as Gangshang Village), referred to as the Former Site of the First Branch, is situated in the northern part of North Gang Village, Yuzhe Town, Tunliu County. It is a two-courtyard quadrangle compound. The campus was established in the village on February 23, 1939. The branch’s student body was composed of the Fifth Brigade (originally stationed in Qingyang, Gansu) and the Sixth Brigade of the First Branch, which were formerly the Mobile School of the Eighth Route Army (originally stationed in Luochuan, Shaanxi), totaling 3,237 people. The branch was organized with a headquarters, a training department, and a political department, with intermediate-level offices, divisions, and sections. The academic structure included seven instructional battalions and 29 student companies. To meet the needs of combat behind enemy lines, the detachment also added a battalion system, consisting of three detachments, each with three battalions, and each battalion with 4–5 student companies. The directly affiliated classes (or companies) of the branch were organized as the Eighth Battalion, while 420 students recruited from southeastern Shanxi were formed into the Ninth Battalion. The Eighth and Ninth Battalions were under the command of the Third Detachment.

The Former Site of the First Branch mainly includes the site of the Directly Affiliated Units of the First Branch, the site of the Women’s Company of the Directly Affiliated Units, and the site of the Headquarters of the Special Brigade Battalion. The total area is approximately 5,347 square meters.
