Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station

Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station is located on the lower reaches of the Jinsha River at the border between Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, with its left bank in Yibin County, Sichuan Province, and its right bank in Shuifu County, Yunnan Province. With the progressive development of hydropower resources along the Jinsha River, the entire river basin has gradually become a world-renowned “museum” of hydroelectric cascade development and utilization. Yibin County has seized the opportunity presented by the construction of the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station, making full use of its proximity to the dam site. Focusing on leisure cruises on the reservoir’s calm waters and eco-agricultural sightseeing along the Jinsha River valley, the county is developing eco-themed tourism. It aims to create a new brand of ecological, personalized, and specialized “high-gorge flat-lake” eco-tourism, striving to develop the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station high-gorge flat-lake tourism area into a world-class destination that integrates both eco-tourism and industrial tourism.

This project spans the Jinsha River basin and is based on the main tourism resources of Pingshan County and Yibin County, with the Xiangjiaba Reservoir as its core asset. It forms four key resource clusters: “Anbian Town–Shulou Town,” “Hengjiang Ancient Town–Shicheng Mountain,” “Longhua Ancient Town–Standing Buddha,” and “Laojunshan National Nature Reserve.” The concentrated distribution of these resources facilitates integrated tourism development and supports the scaled growth of the tourism industry. Leveraging the landscapes of lotus ponds, vast flower plantations, and eco-fishing leisure parks, the Xiangjiaba High-Gorge Flat-Lake area emphasizes the creation of an elegant and beautiful living environment. A clustered spatial integration model can be adopted, taking into account factors such as resource and environmental characteristics, landscape combination features, and tourism development directions. The resort area is divided into six functional zones: the Entrance Leisure and Entertainment Zone, the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Expo Park, the Banan Village Cave Hot Spring Resort, the Bank Dam Rural Leisure Zone, the Baoning Mountain Retreat, and the Shulou Hakka Culture Experience Zone.

In addition, the successful construction of the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station has directly boosted investment promotion in our county. As the logistical support base for the hydropower station, our county has created new business opportunities for further investment. As a result, it will undoubtedly attract more tourists and entrepreneurs, playing a significant role in promoting economic development in the reservoir area and its surrounding regions, and forming a new socio-cultural tourism and economic landscape. If leveraged effectively, the Xiangjiaba project will greatly enhance Yibin’s city visibility, making it our second global calling card after Wuliangye.
