Former Site of the Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture

The former site of the Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former site of the Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture is located in Yuanyangtian, Shangba Village, Lizhuang Town, Yibin City, Sichuan Province. It consists of two connected small courtyards, covering a total area of 1,480 square meters with a built-up area of 349 square meters. The site includes the society’s office, the office and bedroom of Mr. Liang Sicheng, as well as the living quarters of Mo Zongjiang, Liu Zhiping, Luo Zhewen, and others. During the period from 1940 to 1946, pioneers in the field of Chinese architectural history such as Liang Sicheng, Lin Huiyin, Liu Dunzhen, Chen Mingda, Liu Zhiping, Mo Zongjiang, and Luo Zhewen all worked, studied, and lived here. With their advanced research methods and rigorous academic spirit, they made significant contributions to the study of ancient Chinese architecture. The Society’s time in Lizhuang holds extremely high research value for the study of both Chinese architectural history and the cultural history of the War of Resistance against Japan.

In 2006, the former site of the Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture was listed as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

In September 2016, it was included in the “First List of China’s 20th Century Architectural Heritage.”

Protected Area: 20 meters beyond the site boundary.

Construction Control Zone: 50 meters beyond the protected area.
