LIFENG MOUNTAIN VILLA

LIFENG MOUNTAIN VILLA is located in Banli'ao, about 5 kilometers southwest of Lizhuang Town, within the 5th and 6th production teams of Yongsheng Village. The area got its name, Banli'ao (literally "Chestnut Hollow"), from a small hill that resembles a rhinoceros gazing at the moon and an ancient chestnut tree several hundred years old that once grew on it. You can reach LIFENG MOUNTAIN VILLA by ascending over a kilometer of high stone steps, all paved with flagstones, that wind up from the Yangtze River.

LIFENG MOUNTAIN VILLA faces east and covers an area of approximately 10,000 square meters, with a built-up area of about 7,000 square meters. It is a grand and typical example of a traditional residential compound in southern Sichuan. The renowned ancient architecture expert Liang Sicheng included Lizhuang's LIFENG MOUNTAIN VILLA as a classic example of southern Sichuan vernacular architecture in his monumental work, “A History of Chinese Architecture.” In addition to text and photographs, the book also features a floor plan of the building, providing a reference for future restoration efforts of LIFENG MOUNTAIN VILLA.
