The Site of the CPC Yibin Special Branch (Memorial Temple of General Xie Zhong) is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Memorial Temple of General Xie Zhong is located on General Street in Cuiping District, Yibin City.

On December 11, 1907, the Xufu Uprising, a large-scale armed revolt involving hundreds of participants and planned by Xie Fengqi, Yu Ying, and Xiong Kewu, shook the entire Sichuan region. The uprising was suppressed by the feudal court—over 200 people were killed, and Xie Fengqi was betrayed by a traitor and executed by the local magistrate in the urban area the following March. After the overthrow of the feudal monarchy, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, in his capacity as the Provisional President of the Republic of China, posthumously awarded Xie Fengqi the rank of Lieutenant General in the Army and conferred upon him the posthumous title of General Zhangzuo. To commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Xufu Uprising, the people of Yibin converted the former Qing Dynasty Qianzong government office located on Shuidongkou Street—where Xie Fengqi was executed—into the Memorial Temple of General Xie Zhong, and renamed the street “Xie Zhong General Street.” On January 30, 1926, the CPC Yibin Special Branch was established. The branch subsequently set up ten party units: the Workers’ Branch, Shop Assistants’ Branch, Zhongshan School Branch, Wuyu Primary School Branch, Girls’ School Branch, Urban Branch, Guanyin Branch, Baihua Branch, Pugang Branch, and Shuangshipu Branch. From the moment it was founded, the CPC Yibin Special Branch led a vigorous revolutionary movement across the Yibin region, awakening the masses—especially patriotic youths—to revolutionary consciousness, accelerating the development of Party organizations in Yibin, and promoting the establishment of Party branches in Yibin and neighboring areas. Under the leadership of the CPC Yibin Special Branch, the peasant movement grew rapidly; many townships and districts established peasant associations, and the First Peasant Representatives Congress of Yibin County was convened on Qixing Mountain, officially forming the Yibin County Peasant Association.

During the climax of the Great Revolution, and until the “April 12 Counterrevolutionary Coup” in 1927, the Memorial Temple of General Xie Zhong served as the headquarters of the CPC Yibin Special Branch, as well as the site of the Yibin County Peasant Movement Training Institute, the County Peasant Association, and the Zhongshan Middle School founded by the Special Branch. The County Kuomintang Party Headquarters (Left-Wing), established with the help of Communist Party members, was also located here.

It no longer exists due to the expansion of the Third People’s Hospital of Yibin City.
