It is the only habitat in the world for the Tiebu sika deer (a new subspecies of sika deer, also known as the Sichuan sika deer). Located on the northeastern edge of Ruoergai, the area boasts a pleasant climate and lush vegetation. Its unique geographical location provides an ideal “paradise” for wildlife. The Tiebu sika deer is characterized by its tall stature, with a deep reddish-brown coat dotted with small, dense white spots. It is agile and fast-running, living in herds distributed across the reserve’s nine high mountain valleys. Currently, about 80% of the reserve's area is covered by natural vegetation, with a forest coverage rate of 53%. In addition to sika deer, the reserve is also home to vertebrates such as the Chinese schizothoracin, blue eared pheasant, leopard cat, forest musk deer, and serow.

Location: On the northeastern edge of Ruoergai.

Climate: The terrain features high mountains and deep valleys, with a relatively warm climate, lush forest vegetation, well-developed mountain ranges, and numerous rivers.

Distinction: One of China’s earliest-established nature reserves, it primarily aims to protect the Sichuan sika deer and its habitat.

Introduction: The sika deer here is a new subspecies distinct from the Taiwan, Northeastern, and Southern subspecies, and is referred to as the “Sichuan sika deer.” It is notable for its large body, short tail, long hind legs, dense and small white spots, and a unique row of white spots along both sides of the spine. The reserve is characterized by overlapping mountains, dense forests, and the Bailong River flowing from west to east, making it an ideal habitat for the breeding and thriving of sika deer.
