Zhasa Ge

The magical Zhasa Ge Sacred Mountain is located in Re’er Township, northeastern Ruoergai County, approximately 69 kilometers from the county seat. It stands in distant harmony with Huahu Lake on the Ruoergai Grassland, about 20 kilometers away. Dominated by metamorphic volcanic rocks, it forms a high-mountain canyon landscape and is an exceptional paradise for outdoor sports. Zhasa Ge is widely renowned for its close connection to the Tibetan hero King Gesar and is revered as a sacred mountain by local Tibetan people. In Tibetan, "Zhasa Ge" means "Eagle Mountain." Legend has it that a divine eagle flying from the Ü-Tsang region (Ngari, Tibet) subdued demons and monsters before soaring through the skies. When it reached Zhasa Ge, it was captivated by the breathtaking scenery and chose to rest here. The eagle lingered for so long that it eventually turned into a stone eagle (visible at the foot of the mountain on clear days), guarding the mountains and people here for thousands of years.

Climate: The climate is mild with distinct seasons. The northern part features a quasi-south subtropical monsoon humid climate, while the southern mountainous area exhibits varied climates including mid-subtropical, north subtropical, south temperate, and north temperate zones, characterized by alpine vertical climatic conditions. The annual average temperature ranges from 17.1°C to 18.5°C, with annual precipitation between 748.4 mm and 1184.2 mm, sunshine duration of 1200–1400 hours, and a frost-free period of 300–358 days.

Attraction Introduction: Zhasa Ge is a high-mountain canyon landscape centered around metamorphic volcanic rocks, a hidden gem seldom visited by tourists. It combines the grandeur of Mount Tai, the steepness of Mount Hua, the misty beauty of Mount Heng, the peculiar rocks of Mount Yandang, and the elegance of Mount Emei. Among its wonders are uniquely shaped rock formations such as “Pigsy Inviting the Sage,” “Stone Boat,” “Tiger’s Majestic Posture,” “Unopened Door,” “Smooth Sailing,” “Stone Eagle,” “Stone Turtle,” and “Flying Rock,” each displaying distinct charm. On the left side of the canyon passage, towering cliffs and numerous caves create a dramatic scene, featuring sights like “Zhasa Ge Sacred Mountain Window,” “King Gesar’s Horse Hoof,” “Sky-reaching Cave,” “Fairy Cave,” and “Sacred Water Cave.” Every peak has steep cliffs, and every cliff houses caves. Beneath the rocks, meadows spread out with blooming wildflowers. The gushing springs and the vast primeval forests filled with rustling trees add to Zhasa Ge’s mystical allure.
