Chazhen Liangzi

Chazhen Liangzi stands at an elevation of 4,345 meters within Hongyuan County, located at the 719-kilometer mark of National Highway 213. The terrain features high mountain landscapes and high-altitude plateau landforms, characterized as alpine canyon-type grassland. The Chazhen Liangzi pass is surrounded by clusters of red willows, with alpine buttercups and spireas dotting the area. From the pass, one can gaze out over undulating hills, herds of livestock, and two rivers flowing side by side—a truly majestic sight. Chazhen Liangzi marks the summit of the southern hilly plateau of Hongyuan. Though the mountain itself lacks extraordinary peaks, it is remarkable for being the source of two rivers on either side of the plateau—one flowing into the Yellow River and the other into the Yangtze River. Legend has it that a beautiful fairy, dressed in colorful garments, once sat atop the mountain weaving with a golden shuttle, spreading a vast expanse of fine woolen fabric across the land. One day, caught in a sudden downpour, she shook the fabric, causing the rainwater to flow in opposite directions—resulting in lush grasslands to the north and fertile farmland to the southwest, thus forming one pastoral and one agricultural region.

The climate is notably cold and semi-humid, with thin air and abundant sunshine year-round. The period from May to September sees concurrent rainfall and heat, and there is no absolute frost-free period.

Resource Features: Chazhen Liangzi is the highest point of the southern hilly plateau of Hongyuan. Although the mountain lacks dramatic peaks, it is remarkable for being the source of two rivers on either side of the plateau—one flowing into the Yellow River and the other into the Yangtze River.
