The Hongyuan Grassland in Aba Prefecture is closely connected to the Ruoergai Grassland, forming together like a joyfully galloping, plump sheep — making up the largest grassland in Sichuan, spanning an area of 30,000 square kilometers, and also one of the three major grassland pastoral areas in China. Composed of meadow grassland and marshes, the Hongyuan Grassland stretches as far as the eye can see, with endless stretches of grassland dotted with pools that form marshes. To the south stands the majestic Zhugu Mountain, its peak covered with year-round snow, exuding a grand presence, where pristine forests complement the snowy mountains and grasslands. Scattered across the grassland are countless small lakes, their waters a brilliant blue, while streams weave through them like vines, connecting lakes large and small in a crystal-clear tapestry. The name “Hongyuan Grassland” not only comes from its breathtaking scenery but also from the legacy of the Red Army’s Long March, which left behind numerous stories and details for us to reflect upon.

The Wache Prayer Flags and Moon Bay Grassland are among the main attractions of the Hongyuan Grassland. Prayer flags are a common religious expression in Tibetan regions, and the Wache Prayer Flag cluster is unusually vast even by Tibetan standards — colorful prayer flags arranged in the shape of a tent create a spectacular sight when the wind blows and the flags flutter. Moon Bay Grassland gets its name from the river that winds through the grassland like a crescent moon. The tranquil river glows softly, adding a touch of lively color to the vast grassland. Whether riding horses across this landscape, listening to the melodious herding songs, or fishing by the river, it’s the perfect way to enjoy the moment.
