White Pagoda Mountain

White Pagoda Mountain is a cultural tourism attraction.

White Pagoda Mountain, located in Baita Village, Jinhua Township, Dongpo District, was originally known as the White Pagoda of Dawang Temple. It is 18 kilometers from the city center and covers an area of over 150 acres. Dawang Mountain stands abruptly with peaks rising majestically above the clouds, like a lotus emerging from the blue sky or startled birds darting across the plains. To its left is Shigu and to its right is Mayi, with the Glass Ribbon in front and the Fish Maw Mountains encircling behind. During the Ming Dynasty, Wan An, a native of Meizhou, studied on the mountain before later entering the Hanlin Academy as a grand secretary. He called it “a mountain with particularly prosperous energy,” which led to the name “Dawang Mountain” (Great Prosperity Mountain). The mountaintop originally housed the Shengquan Temple from the Tang Dynasty, but the pagoda collapsed and the temple was destroyed. In the fourth year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1865 AD), the white pagoda was rebuilt following Tang architectural styles. It stands 47 meters tall with 13 stories made of brick. The pagoda faces west from an eastward base, with a dome-shaped top and a square body that tapers inward with each ascending level. Each floor has open windows, and the inner hollow structure has seven levels. Inside the pagoda, there is a wooden staircase that allows visitors to climb and explore.

The white pagoda is situated at the summit of the mountain. Climbing to the top offers panoramic views of the scenery along both banks of the Min River, making it one of the rare iconic ancient structures on the Western Sichuan Plain. When the sun sets in the west, the majestic white pagoda and the vast evening glow create a breathtaking scene known as the “Evening Glow of the White Pagoda.”
