Originating from the legend of "Gazing at the Moon," Wangyue Lake is situated at Lianghekou Reservoir — the only medium-sized reservoir in Meishan County. The lake is located 22 kilometers from downtown Meishan, within Zhengjun Township. It enjoys convenient transportation and beautiful scenery. Adjacent to the bustling Huazang Temple just over 600 meters away, the two complement each other with their distinctive features.

The lake covers a surface area of over 1,500 mu, primarily divided into two branches that twist and turn through undulating hills and numerous ravines, extending more than ten kilometers in depth. Motorboats are available for tourists to cruise along both shores and admire the scenic landscape. Rowboats and pedal boats are also offered for those who wish to enjoy boating firsthand. Deep in the serene paths along the shore lie Buddha statues carved during the Tang Dynasty, as well as a natural cave famous for being formed by the constant dripping of water. On the lakeshore stands a naturally formed rock sculpture that, when viewed from afar, resembles an ancient figure who once gazed at the moon and then sat in meditation right there. Its neck is stretched upward as if it is still enchantedly staring at the slowly rising moon on the horizon. The figure appears so engrossed that one hesitates to disturb its tranquil contemplation.

Since last year, the lake has introduced fishing activities. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy a full day of fishing for just a 5-yuan management fee per day, with discounted monthly and even more economical annual passes available. At the upstream end of the reservoir stands a classical-style teahouse where visitors can rest and relax. One may also sit in the pavilion, sip a glass of fresh water, gaze out from the railing, and gather one’s thoughts in a peaceful environment with fresh air — truly a rare spot for tranquility, leisure, and repose. Especially on crisp autumn evenings, sitting on a chair by the overpass and quietly watching the moon slowly rise above the treetops can be an unforgettable experience. It often leaves one pondering why the figure — that moon-gazing figure — remains with its head tilted upward, as if unwilling to look away. In short, Wangyue Lake is undoubtedly a mysterious and fascinating destination for travel and recreation.

In addition, not far from Wangyue Lake lies Hongse Village, which is said to be the place where the deity Erlang God carried mountains to fill the sea. Legend has it that while carrying the stones, his carrying pole broke — one stone fell at the entrance of the village, another at the end, and the pole flew to Walnut Cave. To this day, these two massive rocks still remain. Near the border with Lianghe Village, there is also a "Tiger Cave" that extends dozens of meters deep.
