Scripture Pavilion

The Scripture Pavilion is located on the campus of Southern Meishan Normal School in Meishan City. Originally the scripture depository of the Confucian Temple, it was first built in the ninth year of the Kangxi reign (1670), rebuilt in the twenty-second year of the Daoguang reign (1842), and renovated in the twenty-sixth year of the Guangxu reign (1902). It is now largely intact.

The Scripture Pavilion has a construction area of 234 square meters, featuring a double-eaved, hip-and-gable roof, and is built with a brick-and-wood structure. It has one floor above ground and one basement level, with a through-tenon beam frame consisting of three bays and four columns. The building is three bays wide, measuring 12.5 meters in length, and three bays deep, measuring 9.25 meters, with a porch depth of 1.9 meters. The ground floor is 5.2 meters high, the second floor is 3.75 meters high, and the plain base stands 0.5 meters tall. The stepped entrance consists of two tiers, and the total height of the building is 12 meters. It faces south.

The Scripture Pavilion is one of the few remaining ancient Qing Dynasty buildings in Dongpo District, exhibiting typical Qing-style architectural features and serving as an important historical resource for the study of Confucianism and ancient architecture.
