Zeng Family Ancestral Garden

Zeng Family Ancestral Garden is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Zeng Family Ancestral Garden is located north of Liujang Ancient Town in Hongya County, Meishan City, Sichuan Province. Built during the Qing Dynasty, it is the only relatively well-preserved family estate in Hongya County to this day. Viewed from above, the main courtyard forms the traditional Chinese character for “longevity” (壽).

Research indicates that the Zeng Family Ancestral Garden was built by Zeng Yicheng, a descendant of the Zeng family, over a decade from 1927 to 1937. It faces east and originally covered an area of 11,621 square meters, with a total floor space of 5,402 square meters. The layout consists of “four courtyards and three stages,” featuring four traditional Chinese-style quadrangle courtyards, three performance stages, an observation deck, an ornamental eight-character gate, a young lady’s chamber, a study, a stone memorial archway, as well as a peony garden, a lychee garden, and leisure pavilions — all testaments to the former opulence of the estate’s owners.

In May 2013, Zeng Family Ancestral Garden was designated as part of the seventh group of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Protected Area: The boundary extends 12 meters eastward to the riverbank of Yangcun River, 2 meters westward to the surrounding wall, 3 meters southward to the surrounding wall, and 4 meters northward to the surrounding wall.

Construction Control Zone: The area extends 50 meters beyond the protected boundary.
