The Taipingdu Exhibition Hall of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

The Exhibition Hall of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army’s Long March: Four Crossings of the Chishui River at Taipingdu is located in Taiping Town, Gulin County, on the northern bank of the upper reaches of the Chishui River, at the southern edge of the Sichuan Basin. Gulin County was a battleground during the Red Army’s Long March in the “Four Crossings of the Chishui River Campaign.” Taiping Town, situated 35 kilometers from the county seat, is a key site of the main battlefields of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River.

The exhibition hall houses over 300 revolutionary relics from the Four Crossings of the Chishui River, including Red Army bugle call charts, medical books, seals, and washbasins. These items showcase Comrade Mao Zedong’s early military command prowess and the glorious campaign of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River, recreating the historical journey of the Red Army during the Long March.

In 1958, the “Red Army Long March Memorial Hall” was established at the Rongshengtong Salt Shop in Taipingdu. In 1975, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army’s Four Crossings of the Chishui River and to fulfill Comrade [Deng Xiaoping]’s wish that “the glorious victory of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River be well documented, as it was the masterpiece of Comrade Mao Zedong’s military artistry,” the Gulin County Party Committee and government built the only “Exhibition Hall of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army’s Long March: Four Crossings of the Chishui River” on the Chishui River, located in Taiping Town—the main crossing site for the second and fourth crossings. It is a key cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province and a provincial-level national defense education base. In 2001, it was named a “National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base” by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.
