Tian Di Bao Cave is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

Tian Di Bao Cave is a natural karst cave located on the cliffs of Erlangtan, and also serves as a unique natural wine storage cellar for Langjiu. Inside the cave, rows of earthenware jars form an awe-inspiring spectacle, often referred to as the “Terracotta Army of liquor.” In 1999, it was recorded in the Guinness World Records at the Shanghai Great World as the world’s largest natural wine cellar.

“Langjiu Tian Bao Cave and Di Bao Cave” are located at the foot of Wolong Mountain beneath the Langjiu production base. These are natural karst caves formed as far back as the Jurassic period. Later used by military forces, they were repurposed in the 1970s for wine storage. Tens of thousands of large wine jars are densely arranged throughout the caves, forming a grand and magnificent wine storage ensemble, often dubbed the “Liquor Terracotta Army.” It is currently the world’s largest natural wine cellar, making outstanding contributions to national economic development, and holds significant historical, economic, and tourism value.

As a unique storage environment, “Langjiu Tian Bao Cave and Di Bao Cave” provide ideal conditions for the maturation of Langjiu. They foster the growth of beneficial microorganisms, effectively break down harmful substances such as — in the alcohol molecules, and guide the transformation of — and various esters and acids in directions that enhance the aroma of the liquor. This promotes a richer and more mellow taste in Langjiu. This naturally unique aging process holds high scientific value and is of great importance for the study of brewing techniques.

Getting There

By Car: Depart from Luzhou, take the Naxi–Qianxi Expressway, exit at Zhendong, then drive 2.2 km along National Highway 321 before entering Provincial Highway 309 to Erlang Town.

By Bus: Travelers can take a bus from Luzhou Square Bus Station or Luzhou Passenger Transport Center to Gulin (approximately 3.5 hours), then transfer to a Gulin–Erlang bus at Gulin Passenger Transport Center (about 1 hour). Upon arriving in Erlang, walk or take a local vehicle to reach the destination.
