Yanggou Zhang Family Residence

The Yanggou Zhang Family Residence is located in Yanggou Village, Shangma Township, Xiangyuan County. It faces south and features a single-courtyard layout, measuring 32.5 meters from north to south and 27 meters from east to west, covering an area of 877.5 square meters. The existing structures date back to the Republican era. Along the central axis, there are seven southern rooms, one main cave dwelling, three western rooms on either side, and one connected cave behind the western rooms consisting of eight arches. The main cave is a cliff-side dwelling built during the Republican period. The western and southern rooms are both two-story buildings constructed with earth and timber, featuring single-eave gable roofs. The window sills are carved with patterns of peonies and auspicious animals. Behind the western rooms, there are eight hidden caves, six of which form a connected series running from north to south. These caves contain concealed escape passages as a precaution against bandits. This residence provides valuable physical evidence for the study of local traditional dwellings.

Located in the western part of the county, it is 40 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 54 square kilometers, it has a population of 5,000. The Xiashi Highway passes through the township.
