Tulu Ambush Battle Memorial Pavilion

The Tulu Ambush Battle Memorial Pavilion is a cultural relic protection unit of Changzhi City.

The Tulu Ambush Battle Memorial Pavilion is located south of Tulu Village, ?ting Town, Xiangyuan County. It spans approximately 400 meters from north to south and 100 meters from east to west, covering a total area of about 40,000 square meters. During the Shangdang Campaign in 1945, the Peng Yubin forces sent by Yan Xishan to reinforce Changzhi were mostly annihilated by the troops of the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Military Region in the vicinity of Laoyeshan, while the fleeing soldiers were completely wiped out in the Tulu River beach area. To commemorate this battle, in 1985, the county government built the Shangdang Campaign Memorial Pavilion on the site. The pavilion is a two-story antique-style concrete structure. In the center of the pavilion stand two rectangular memorial steles made of bluestone, each 2 meters tall, 0.8 meters wide, and 0.2 meters thick, resting on pedestals 0.5 meters high. The inscriptions on the steles are in regular script, with 10 lines of 60 characters each. The left stele was erected on Qingming Festival in 1995, with an inscription on its reverse side reading “Eternal Glory to the Martyrs Who Fell in the Mopan’ao Battle.” The right stele was erected on October 12, 1986, with an inscription on its reverse side carrying Deng Xiaoping’s calligraphy: “Eternal Glory to the Martyrs Who Fell in the Shangdang Campaign.” In 2007, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Changzhi City.

Tulu Village: Overview of Tulu Village

Tulu Village is located in the western part of ?ting Town, at the border of Qinxian, Xiangyuan, and Yixian, about 10 kilometers from ?ting Town. It administers two natural villages, with a total of 125 households and 382 residents. The village has over 1,273.3 mu of arable land, 1,000 mu of forested land, 3,100 mu of barren hills, wasteland, and slopes, and covers a village area of 180 mu.

Natural Environment

Tulu Village is a purely agricultural community with no collective economic income. The area features high mountains and steep slopes, with thin soil and expansive fields, offering unique advantages for developing animal husbandry. The village’s population of over 300 is distributed across the two natural villages.
