Wenchang Pavilion in Sucun

Wenchang Pavilion in Sucun is located in the southeast of Sucun Village, Houpu Town, Xiangyuan County. It faces west and is a single standalone structure, measuring 5.77 meters in width from east to west and 5.77 meters in length from north to south, covering an area of 33.3 square meters. The year of its construction is unknown, but the existing structure dates back to the Qing Dynasty. It is a two-story brick building designed in imitation of wooden pavilion architecture, with a square floor plan, built on a stone platform foundation that is 1.9 meters high; it features a hip-and-gable roof and single-curved single-ang bracket sets; the first floor has a brick plaque inscribed with the characters “Wenchang Pavilion” (Pavilion of Literary Prosperity) in regular script, while the second floor bears a plaque inscribed with “Kuiguang” (Radiance of the Stars), with brick-carved couplets on both sides whose inscriptions have become faded and illegible.
