The Deyang stone carvings encapsulate the essence of ethnic and traditional culture, using various forms of carving and spatial arrangements to present majestic themes such as nature, life, and ethnic harmony. The entire wall is constructed from stone, assembled in segments, blending solid and void elements with appropriate rhythm and intense momentum, resulting in a series of both independent and interconnected stone carving epic murals—simple yet magnificent. The stone carvings stretch 1,040 meters in length and stand 7 meters high, featuring: an Ethnic Culture Corridor composed of 35 circular arches with close musical associations, 32 coiling dragon pillars corresponding to the arches with varied shapes and vivid imagery, the Sun and Moon Exhibition Hall, the Music Hall, a pedestrian underpass, large-scale reliefs “Song of Life,” “Light of Wisdom,” and “Soul of China,” along with the Zodiac Pillars. These blend ancient and modern elements and transcend time and space, reflecting the everlasting charm of Chinese civilization.

The Deyang Art Wall is located alongside the Taishan North Road arterial road in Deyang City. It stretches over 1,000 meters in length and is 7 meters high, consisting of attractions such as the Ox Gate, Song of Life, Art Corridor, Light of Wisdom, Soul of China, and the Twelve Zodiac Columns. Integrated with the art wall are the lawns opposite the wall, surrounding garden landscapes, and the beautifully scenic Shangjing Lake.

The Deyang Art Wall was created using a long retaining wall along a highway. Its structure neighbors the Deyang Stone Ox Park, with the upper edge of the wall situated 7–9 meters higher than the park, naturally forming a backdrop. The skilled artisans of Deyang City artistically adapted the terrain, pooled collective wisdom to design the blueprint, and constructed this large-scale stone carving art wall to complement the Stone Ox Park, pioneering the organic integration of urban retaining wall construction with sculptural art in China.

The Deyang Stone Carving Art Wall has not only garnered praise from domestic visitors but also received high acclaim from international guests. Domestic tourists often express amazement, lauding it as an “artistic palace, a unique wonder through the ages,” “majestic yet elegant, surpassing nature’s craftsmanship,” “a national treasure,” and an “Eastern innovation.” Foreign visitors describe it as an extraordinary artistic spectacle in the world, akin to a grand empire.

The Deyang stone carvings reflect both ethnic and traditional cultural values while showcasing regional characteristics and contemporary relevance. Spanning 720 meters in length and 7 meters in height, the carvings focus on themes of nature and life, using relief, round carving, architecture, and various spatial compositions of the wall to establish the main tone. The design is segmented into sections that form a powerful rhythm of independent yet connected elements. Entirely built with stone, the structure alternates between solid and void, maintaining perfect rhythm and continuous intensity, exuding a simple and majestic allure throughout.

The Deyang stone carvings include: an Ethnic Culture Corridor made up of 35 circular arches with strong musical associations; 32 uniquely styled, traditionally inspired, vividly sculpted coiled dragon pillars corresponding to those arches; the Sun and Moon Exhibition Hall, the Music Hall, a pedestrian underpass, and large reliefs “Song of Life” and “Light of Wisdom”; plus twelve Zodiac Pillars corresponding spatially with the walls. This complete stone-carved park reveals the enduring charm of Chinese culture, highlights the strength of ethnic unity, and celebrates the brilliance of human wisdom.

The Deyang Art Wall extends approximately 700 meters and features 40 archways in total—35 open arches and 5 hidden ones. The 35 visible arches are arranged in three sections of odd-numbered sequences, reflecting the ancient Chinese cultural belief in the mystical significance of odd numbers. Sixteen pairs of intricately carved dragons on the pillars before each archway, exquisite sculptures representing China’s 56 ethnic groups along the wall, and the reliefs and murals of dragons, phoenixes, turtles, horses, beasts, and humans within each archway continuously attract numerous visitors. Especially captivating are the two large-scale reliefs at either end—the 38-meter-long “Song of Life” at the north end, which features three parts: “Four Seasons,” “Flying Horse Leaping Over Waterfall,” and “Human and Nature,” expressing the originally harmonious relationship between humans and nature, as well as a tribute to the celebration of life. At the south end lies the 53-meter-long openwork mural “Light of Wisdom” and Han Dynasty-style reliefs, which collectively showcase the splendor of Bashu culture.
