Wailuo Mountain Longevity Scenic Area

Wailuo Mountain Longevity Scenic Area is located in Hexin Township, southeast of the city, adjacent to Huipeng Township and Xinfeng Township of Zhongjiang County. It is famed as the site where Lin Wei, a general under the peasant uprising leader Zhang Xianzhong during the late Ming Dynasty, heroically sacrificed his life. The entire mountain covers an area of 660,000 square meters, with an elevation of 664 meters. Its main peak features about 800 acres of ancient cypress forest, which is part of a nationally key protected forest area.

The scenic area is known for its naturally fresh pastoral scenery and its “three-no advantages” (free from air, water, and soil pollution). The township where the scenic area is located—Hexin Township—is a renowned longevity village in Jingyang District. The tomb of General Lin Wei is situated beneath the Osmanthus Rock on Wailuo Mountain, while the General Temple built in his memory stands among the ancient cypresses. Further up the stone steps to the main peak lies the Ancestral Master Hall. Other natural attractions in the area include Life-Saving Spring, Weather-Watching Stone, and Longevity Star Tree. Wailuo Mountain has become one of the key tourism development projects in Jingyang District.
