The Shangyu Jade Emperor Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Changzhi City.

The Shangyu Jade Emperor Temple is located in Shangyu Village, Guhan Town, Xiangyuan County. It faces south and measures 31 meters from north to south and 26 meters from east to west, covering an area of approximately 806 square meters. The exact date of its establishment is unknown, but the existing main hall structure dates back to the Qing Dynasty. The temple follows a single-courtyard layout, with the mountain gate (newly built), the main hall, and east and west wing rooms, as well as east and west side halls, situated along the central axis.

The main hall is three bays wide and four rafters deep. Its beam framework consists of five purlins aligned with the front porch, with the beams extending out to form decorative “playful heads.” The front eaves have been newly renovated, and five newly sculpted statues have been placed inside the hall. In 2007, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Changzhi City.

The village has a total of 319 households, with a population of 1,230 and 43 Party members. It is divided into 8 groups and includes 4 natural villages. The population remains relatively stable, with villagers primarily engaged in crop farming. The village has a total of 2,530 mu of arable land, yielding a total grain output of 1.37 million jin, mainly from corn and wheat cultivation. The per capita income of farmers exceeds 5,800 yuan.
