Hongqi Farmstead

Hongqi Farmstead is a cultural heritage protected site under Sichuan Province.

Hongqi Farmstead, located in Qinglin Village, Yong’an Town, was built in 1958. The existing structures include an auditorium and dormitory buildings, covering a total construction area of 2,600 square meters. The auditorium is 16.1 meters wide, 36 meters deep, and has a ridge height of 8.6 meters. It is a brick-concrete structure with triangular wooden roof trusses and a single-eave roof that combines a flush gable front with a hip-and-gable rear section. There are three surviving dormitory buildings, all of which are brick-concrete structures with triangular wooden roof trusses and single-eave hipped gable roofs covered with small blue tiles. The first building is double-stacked, measuring 29.6 meters in width and 9.3 meters in depth. The second is single-stacked, 33.3 meters wide and 9.03 meters deep. The third is double-stacked, 25.9 meters wide and 9.3 meters deep.

In 1958, guided by the three banners of the General Line, the Great Leap Forward, and the People’s Communes, the whole nation was swept up in a fervor to surpass Britain and catch up with America and march swiftly towards communism. Rural areas across China followed the Soviet model, constructing collective farms and organizing communal canteens where farmers would eat, live, and work together. As a model village in the entire county, villagers from nine-hundred-plus households—excluding those from Qinglin Squad 1—in Qinglin Village, Qingju Commune, Nanbu County, had their houses demolished. A collective farm was built, along with one auditorium and four dormitory buildings. Since it was built under the inspiration of the Three Red Banners, it was initially named “Hongqi Farmstead” (Red Flag Farmstead), later changed to “Hongqi Farm” (Red Flag Farm). On August 22, 1972, a fire destroyed two of the dormitory buildings. Currently, the first and third buildings were originally one, which was split into two after part of the structure was removed by farmers.

Hongqi Farmstead was designated as a cultural heritage site under the protection of Gaoping District, Nanchong City, on January 13, 2006. On June 1, 2007, it was listed as a provincial-level cultural heritage protected site by the People’s Government of Sichuan Province.

With the Hongqi Farmstead’s steps as the reference point, a protection zone extends outward 30 meters in all directions as the primary protected area, and between 30 and 50 meters as the general protected area. Within the primary protection zone, no new constructions or facilities are permitted. Within the general protection zone, any construction projects must be approved by the relevant administrative department managing cultural relics and reported to urban-rural planning and land resources departments before commencement. Within the protected areas, it is strictly prohibited to engage in deforestation, soil extraction, tomb construction, grazing, bird hunting, or storing any flammable, explosive, toxic, or hazardous materials.
