Dazhong Dam

Dazhong Dam is an island in the Zhou River, located to the west of the city, 8 kilometers from downtown, covering an area of over 350 acres. On the island stands a two-story revolving horse-track building constructed during the Qing Dynasty. The ground floor still preserves a poem inscribed by Li Qingman, a renowned cultural figure of the Qing era. It once served as a villa for government officials. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the government utilized over 120 acres of arable land on the island, adapting to local conditions, and established an agricultural school, a farm, and an agricultural research institute. In 1984, it became the breeding farm of the Daxian region. The island is lush with grass, bamboo, and trees, and is home to flocks of egrets and white herons, as well as wild rabbits and pheasants. Research nurseries and orchards bloom with fragrance. During spring and autumn seasons, citizens cross the river to visit the island, gathering with friends to drink wine and compose poetry, enjoying the rustic charm of nature.
