Shenjian Garden Tourist Attraction

Shenjian Garden Tourist Attraction is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Shenjian Garden (English: Excalibur Park) is located at the former residence of General Zhang Aiping in Gaoshi Village, Luojiang Town, Tongchuan District, Dazhou City, Sichuan Province. It was built to commemorate General Zhang Aiping, known as the "Sword General." The scenic area mainly consists of two parts: the Former Residence of General Zhang Aiping and the Red Army Culture Exhibition Hall. In December 2018, it was selected as one of Sichuan Province’s first clean governance culture bases and rated as a national 3A-level tourist attraction.

The Former Residence of Zhang Aiping is located in Zhangjiagou, Gaoshi Village, Luojiang Town, Tongchuan District, Dazhou City, Sichuan Province, adjacent to National Highway 210 and the Dazhou-Chongqing Expressway, nestled at the foot of Jinlong Temple in the heart of Phoenix Mountain. The residence was initially built in the late Qing Dynasty, constructed against the mountain with a north-south orientation. It forms a traditional quadrangle courtyard consisting of the main house, wing rooms, a courtyard, and the front gate. The wing rooms feature cantilevered balconies, while both the main and wing houses are roofed with a central ridge, four hip ridges, four gable ridges, and four sloping roof planes. The residence has a total of 29 rooms, covering an area of over 1,300 square meters, with the ground and upper floors spanning 2,000 square meters. It is a traditional Chinese hip-and-gable wooden structure. Before June 1929, it served as the residence, living quarters, study, and site of revolutionary activities for General Zhang Aiping.

The exhibition content of the Former Residence of Zhang Aiping includes 12 sections that trace his life from a passionate youth to a Marxist, Red Army general, founder of guerrilla bases behind enemy lines, creator of the People’s Navy, commander of the Battle of Dongshan Island, organizer of nuclear and satellite tests, and driver of national defense modernization. Through a wealth of photos and artifacts, it introduces the general’s extraordinary life and his significant contributions to China’s liberation and the development of the republic.

The Dazhou Red Army Culture Exhibition Hall is divided into several sections: the Preface Hall, Red Army Battles in Dazhou, The Heroic Spirits of Martyrs Uplift Dazhou, Brilliant Generals Shine Over Dazhou, and Red Calligraphy and Art Adorn Dazhou. With a wealth of historical facts and cultural relics, it showcases the brave and tenacious fighting spirit of the Red Army and the people of Dazhou, highlighting the glorious achievements of more than 50 generals from Dazhou, including Wang Weizhou, Zhang Aiping, Chen Bojun, and Xiang Shouzhi. Their remarkable feats are immortalized in history, and their sacrifices and contributions to national liberation, socialist construction, and national defense modernization stand as eternal monuments, inspiring admiration in future generations.

The Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area Battle History Museum and Shenjian Museum are part of the second phase of the Shenjian Garden project, located east of the Former Residence of General Zhang Aiping and the Dazhou Red Army Culture Exhibition Hall. With a total investment of approximately 160 million yuan, the phase covers an area of 138 mu and includes two exhibition halls and two plazas.

These consist of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area Battle History Museum, the Shenjian Museum, the Shenjian Plaza, and the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area Battle History Plaza. New attractions will include exhibitions on the battle history of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area, national defense technology experiences, and the “Third Front” construction experience tourism.

In December 2019, the second phase of the Shenjian Garden project commenced full-scale construction and was scheduled to be completed and opened to the public in 2020. Once completed, the Shenjian Garden will be developed into a cultural tourism destination integrating revolutionary tradition education, national defense and patriotic education, modern science and cultural education, and a model site for new rural construction. It will also serve as an important center for popularizing national defense science and technology knowledge and showcasing cultural art related to the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" spirit.

Luojiang Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Dachuan City. During the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Qingfeng Township of Suiding Prefecture. In 1940, it was established as Luojiang Township, became a town in 1952, was reorganized as a commune in 1958, reverted to a township in 1984, and was re-established as a town in 1985. Located in the central part of the city, on the western bank of the Zhou River, it is 11.5 kilometers from the city government. Covering an area of 52.3 square kilometers with a population of 20,000, it is traversed north to south by National Highway 210, and the Zhou River is navigable year-round. The town administers 12 village committees and residential committees: Gaoshi, Jinfeng, Dongba, Taihe, Milin, Miaoping, Tianchi, Hongliang, Laolin, Gaoyan, Shiyan, and Hongying.
