Qionghai Scenic Area

Qionghai Scenic Area is recognized as a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area and a National Wetland Park.

Qionghai, also known as Qiongchi, is located 5 kilometers southeast of Xichang City. It is a natural lake formed by tectonic faulting and is the largest natural freshwater lake solely within Sichuan Province. The lake covers an area of 27.678 square kilometers, with a maximum depth of 18 meters and a perennial water storage capacity of approximately 320 million cubic meters. Qionghai was formed during prehistoric geological movements due to fault subsidence. Surrounded by mountains and lush greenery, the area boasts a beautiful environment and pleasant scenery. The lake water remains clear year-round, making it suitable for swimming, boating, and fishing in all seasons. With spring-like weather throughout the year—free from severe cold in winter and intense heat in summer—Qionghai is an ideal "destination for escaping the cold and heat, and a paradise for leisure and vacation." Scenic spots along the lake include Seaside Park, New Beach, Moon Bay Resort, and East Suburb Park. Qionghai is abundant in fish and shrimp, making it a renowned natural fishing ground and water sports venue. Lush trees line the shores, while distant mountains encircle the area. The lakeside pavilions and corridors of Seaside Park, adorned with seasonal flowers, are especially eye-catching.

Transportation: A taxi ride from downtown Xichang costs about 15 RMB. Admission | Opening Hours: After entering the park, you can take a small boat to the fishing village on the opposite shore for barbecues and sightseeing at 10 RMB per person. Alternatively, you may choose a motorboat at around 20 RMB per person. Private boat tours of Qionghai are also available, starting at over 100 RMB, with prices varying.
