Xichang Memorial Museum of Educated Youth Going Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Educated Youth Museum is located in Yuehua Township, Xichang City. It was once the largest educated youth farm in Sichuan Province. The farm was planned and selected in 1965, and the first group of educated youths moved in during late January 1966. It currently preserves 16 intact cave dwellings built at that time, making it the most well-preserved and largest-scale educated youth farm site. To authentically record the history of educated youth going up to the mountains and down to the countryside, promote the spirit of hard struggle and perseverance, enrich the humanistic value of Xichang’s tourism resources, and create a new attraction that reflects ethnic and cultural harmony, the Xichang Municipal Party Committee and Government began constructing the “Xichang Memorial Museum of Educated Youth Going Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside” in 2008 on the former site of the Sichuan Youth Farm in Xinhua Village, Yuehua Township. The museum was completed and opened to the public free of charge on November 20, 2010.

Yuehua Township: A township under the jurisdiction of Xichang City. Originally named Xi’an Township, it was renamed Xinhua Township in 1952, merged into Lizhou Commune in 1958, re-established as Xinhua Commune in 1961, renamed Yuehua Commune in 1981, and officially became Yuehua Township in 1984. Located in the northeastern part of the city, it is 32 kilometers from downtown. Covering an area of 67 square kilometers with a population of 14,000, it is traversed by the Chengdu-Kunming Railway and National Highway 108. The township administers eight village committees: Xinxing, Anning, Ningle, Xinhua, Hongqi, Fuyu, Wangu, and Yuehua.
