I. Overview

Yongcheng Zhonghua Village is located in the northeastern part of Qijiang, 21 kilometers (a 15-minute drive) from Qijiang, 11 kilometers from Wansheng, and 45 minutes from Chongqing. It falls within Chongqing’s one-hour recreational ring area. As a hidden gem along the Qijiang-Wansheng Expressway, an emerging model of small-town development, and a prime example of new rural construction, the village’s landscapes, culture, and local customs are sure to leave a deep impression.

Zhonghua Village gets its name from the Zhonghua Temple built during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong era. It is a multifunctional rural tourism destination integrating red culture, leisure, entertainment, and business. The area features a hundred-acre fishpond fishing center, an outdoor adventure training base, an exhibition room dedicated to the former residence of General Wang Liang, a red culture figure, the intangible cultural heritage of Yongcheng Wind and Percussion Music, a ten-thousand-mu prickly ash base, Fengguan Mountain’s late-harvest citrus orchards, a strawberry base, a yellow-wood sapling nursery, and a horticultural landscape center. The architecture, fishing center, cultural ambiance, and local agricultural products all boast unique characteristics. The scenic area has been honored as a “Hundred-Village Demonstration Project for New Rural Construction” and a “Municipal Model Village of Chongqing.”

II. Individual Attractions

Fishing Center: Built around a hundred-acre fishpond, the fishing center offers a uniquely charming rural atmosphere. The center includes a countryside-style farmhouse restaurant, behind which lies a beautiful lotus pond with blossoms floating on the water. Nearby, a small stream nourishes the greenery, and misty rain among the bamboo occasionally gives way to beautiful rainbows under the sunlight.

Strawberry Base: The strawberry base is a key component of Zhonghua Village’s rural tourism area, uniquely situated along the mountain terrain. During strawberry-picking season, the area becomes bustling with visitors.

Yellow-Wood Sapling Nursery: In just two or three years, this nursery cultivates yellow-wood trees that would normally take decades to grow and develop their artistic form. There are many secrets behind this process—you can visit the yellow-wood base to uncover the mystery of their growth.

General Wang Liang Exhibition Hall: In Chairman Mao Zedong’s poem “Pride of the Fishermen—Against the First ‘Encirclement Campaign’,” the line “We captured Zhang Huizan upfront” refers to the battle commanded by our very own General Wang Liang from Zhonghua Village. General Wang Liang’s former residence is well preserved in the village, and many of the exhibited relics were once used by him.

Liu Family Music Troupe Display Room: The Liu Family Music Troupe is a traditional folk wind and percussion ensemble from Zhonghua Village and a renowned cultural emblem of Qijiang. It has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage and has been passed down for over 300 years, making it a precious form of folk art. The display room features the world’s largest suona horn, along with tools used in its production and an introduction to the entire crafting process.

Agricultural Product Shop: Here you’ll find a full range of local specialties from Zhonghua Village, including Qijiang Fengguan oranges, old Ying Mountain free-range chicken eggs, naturally raised free-range chickens and pigs, and various other distinctive agricultural products.

Ming and Qing Ancient Architecture Conservation Area: The “Ming and Qing Architectural Complex,” referred to by locals as “Old Qijiang,” is said to have been the site of Qijiang County during the early Ming Dynasty. In the past, the area boasted grand architecture, bustling merchants, and a period of great prosperity. Many legendary tales surround its former glory.

Transportation: From central Chongqing, take the Chongqing-Qianjiang Expressway, pass through the Qijiang exit without exiting, then get on the Qijiang-Wansheng Expressway and exit at Yongcheng to arrive at the destination.
