Wanzhou Westward Journey Cave is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Wanzhou Westward Journey Cave Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist site, located in Yanjing Community, Xintian Town, Wanzhou District, about 28 kilometers from downtown Wanzhou. The area is embraced by mountains and dotted with small bridges and flowing water. The entrance of Westward Journey Cave is hidden among ancient trees. The cave stretches tens of kilometers inward, with large and small pools, deep and treacherous ones, connected one after another; large and small caves, bizarre and unusual, nested within each other; underground rivers flow through; stalactites are jagged and abundant; stalagmites, stone curtains, and stone terraces take on countless forms, all artfully arranged within. The renowned cave formation “Pillar of Heaven” stands nearly 30 meters high.

Inside the Wanzhou Westward Journey Cave Scenic Area, the surroundings are embraced by mountains and feature small bridges and flowing streams. The site now includes standard guesthouses, meeting rooms, boat rides, and a Yanjinggou Fossil Image Museum, integrating sightseeing, cultural entertainment, and science education. The entrance of Westward Journey Cave lies amid ancient trees. The cave extends tens of kilometers inward, with large and small pools, deep and perilous ones, connected continuously; large and small caves, strange and unique, one nesting within another; underground rivers flow inside; stalactites are rugged; stalagmites, stone curtains, and stone terraces are found in a myriad of shapes, all exquisitely arranged. Cave formations such as “Crocodile Playing in Water,” “Upside-down Lotus,” “Dragons Crossing the River,” “Nine Heavens Waterfall,” “Ten Thousand Volume Library,” “Water Curtain Cave,” and “Milky Way Heavenly Palace” are strikingly lifelike and ingeniously crafted. At Twelve Pools, shrimp play and fish frolic, with shimmering ripples. The most spectacular is the Eleventh Pool, shaped like a palace, with a divine turtle guarding the entrance at the mouth of the hall, the ceiling resembling a celestial street of star towers, the ground featuring stone bridges and hidden streams, the side terraced fields and colorful pools, lotus waterfalls, and at the center, a massive stalactite rising “toward the sky,” standing about 30 meters tall with a diameter of around 50 centimeters. It is hailed as the “Number One Pillar of China,” “A Pillar of Incense from Heaven and Earth,” and the “Dragon Pillar of China.”
