University), abbreviated as “Chuan Wai” (SISU), was founded in April 1950 under the close care and guidance of veteran proletarian revolutionaries such as —, —, and —. It has gone through five developmental phases: the Russian Training Corps of the Southwest Military and Political University of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, the Russian Department of the Second Senior Infantry School of the PLA, the Russian Department of the Southwest People’s Revolutionary University, the Southwest Russian Specialized College, and Sichuan International Studies University. The name “Sichuan International Studies University” was inscribed by Guo Moruo. Located in Chongqing, China’s fourth municipality directly under the central government, the university sits on the banks of the Jialing River and at the foot of Gele Mountain, covering an area of over 1,000 acres. With its elegant environment and beautiful scenery, it has been designated as a garden-style institution by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government. After nearly 60 years of development, the university has evolved from a single-discipline Russian college into a comprehensive foreign languages university offering a wide range of language programs including Russian, English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Arabic, Korean, Italian, and Hindi, as well as disciplines such as Translation, Law, Journalism, Broadcasting and Television, Advertising, Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, Chinese Language and Literature, Broadcasting and Hosting, Tourism Management, Human Resource Management, and International Economics and Trade. It provides multi-level and multi-form education including postgraduate, undergraduate, higher vocational, continuing, and intensive training programs. The university currently has 19 departments (secondary colleges), 2 independent colleges, 22 undergraduate majors, and 17 master's degree programs. It serves as a testing center for national exams such as TOEFL, IELTS, TestDaF, GRE, HSK, Japanese Language Proficiency Test, and National Accreditation Examinations for Translators and Interpreters (NAETI), and is recognized as a Foreign Language Training Base for Chongqing Municipal Cadres.

The university fully leverages its strength in foreign language education, focusing on literary studies while promoting coordinated development across multiple disciplines such as economics, management, law, education, and philosophy. Since its establishment, it has trained over 80,000 high-level professionals for foreign-related fields, many of whom have become outstanding leaders or key personnel in their respective industries and institutions. Admitting students nationwide and accepting both arts and science applicants, the university currently has over 9,000 enrolled students. Its graduates are highly sought after and well-regarded by employers. The employment rate for postgraduates is 100%, and that for undergraduates remains above 90%. The university boasts a highly qualified faculty with strong academic backgrounds, rich teaching experience, and a dedicated work ethic. Over 65% of the teaching staff hold postgraduate degrees, and many have taught, studied, or conducted research abroad. The university has a number of renowned scholars and exemplary figures, including experts who enjoy special government allowances from the State Council, national outstanding teachers, national outstanding educators, provincial and ministerial-level experts with outstanding contributions, provincial academic and technical leaders and candidates, talents of the second tier of Chongqing’s 322 Talent Project, provincial-level master teachers, advanced individuals in professional ethics in Chongqing, outstanding teachers in Chongqing, and outstanding young and middle-aged academic backbone teachers in Chongqing universities. The university regularly employs foreign teachers and experts. It offers national characteristic programs, provincial key disciplines, national quality courses, provincial quality courses, provincial quality course construction projects, and one of Chongqing’s first municipal-level characteristic program construction initiatives. The university has established intercollegiate exchange relationships with over 40 universities in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Germany, Japan, Spain, Italy, South Korea, Cuba, and Egypt, and maintains extensive cooperation and exchanges with domestic sister institutions in faculty training, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate education. It houses two provincial-level key research bases for humanities and social sciences: the Research Center for Foreign Language and Literature and the Research Center for Comparative Studies of Chinese and Foreign Cultures. The Journal of Sichuan International Studies University is one of the national core Chinese journals, an extended source journal of the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI), one of the “Top 100 Social Science Journals in China,” and a first-tier journal in Chongqing. It serves as a significant platform for showcasing research achievements in the field of foreign languages. The university has achieved fruitful research outcomes, publishing a number of influential monographs, dictionaries, translations, and textbooks both domestically and internationally. Some academic papers have been included in authoritative domestic and international databases such as Xinhua Digest, Higher Education Humanities and Social Sciences Academic Digest, Renmin University of China Copying Materials, CSSCI, SSCI, and A&HCI. The university library houses over 1 million volumes of books, including original foreign language and literature works and language reference books, as well as nearly 3,000 types of Chinese and foreign periodicals. It is equipped with the most comprehensive multimedia classrooms and language labs for foreign language teaching in the southwest region. Advanced teaching facilities provide strong support for the university’s teaching, research, and management.
