The Chongqing Yangtze River Cableway is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Chongqing Yangtze River Cableway, also known as the "Chongqing Cableway" or "Chongqing River-crossing Cableway," is the most dynamic urban symbol of Chongqing. It is China's only cableway spanning the Yangtze River and is hailed as the first aerial corridor over the mighty river. It is a must-visit attraction for a one-day trip to Chongqing.

The Yangtze River Cableway scenic area is the first stop for Chongqing tourism. Chongqing is renowned as the "Mountain City" and the "River City," and is also famous worldwide as the "City of No Night." Riding the cableway soaring over the vast river, weaving through towering skyscrapers, and traveling atop the illuminated skyline of the city that never sleeps is the best way to understand and experience the unique characteristics and mountainous landscape of Chongqing.

Originally, there were two cableways in Chongqing: the "Jialing River Cableway" and the "Yangtze River Cableway." At 19:35 on February 28, 2011, the Jialing River Cableway officially ceased operation (its platforms were demolished due to conflicts with the underground tunnels of Chongqing Light Rail), making the Yangtze River Cableway the sole remaining river-crossing cableway in Chongqing and China's only urban aerial sightseeing cableway.

The Yangtze River Cableway is Asia’s largest single-cabin passenger cable car (with a capacity of 80+1 passengers). It is China’s first independently designed and manufactured large-scale cross-river passenger cableway, featuring a double-support, double-traction, single-span, reversible system.

The Yangtze River Cableway was constructed on March 20, 1986, and officially opened on October 24, 1987. It is equipped with an anti-sway device capable of withstanding winds of force 5-6 and can operate safely in foggy weather, thunderstorms, and winds below force 7.

The Yangtze River Cableway spans both banks of the Yangtze River, running from Chang’an Temple on Xinhua Road in Yuzhong District (approximately 400 meters above sea level, 5 kilometers from Chaotianmen) to Longmenhao on Shangxin Street in Nan’an District (approximately 360 meters above sea level, 350 meters from Nanbin Road). It operates bidirectionally, with boarding available at both Xinhua Road and Shangxin Street.

The Yangtze River Cableway is 1,166 meters long, travels at a speed of 6 meters per second, and completes a one-way trip in 4 minutes. Its daily passenger capacity is 10,500 people.

The Yangtze River Cableway is a popular filming location for domestic movies and TV dramas set in Chongqing. Representative films shot here include *Zhou Yu’s Train* (2001), *Crazy Stone* (2006), *Curiosity Kills the Cat* (2006), as well as *A Mom for Christmas*, *The BMW Fantasy*, *Sunshine Over Chongqing*, *The Fifth Bullet Shell*, and *New York, Beijing* (2013), among dozens of other films and TV series.

The Yangtze River Cableway is China’s only urban aerial sightseeing cableway, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the majestic landscapes of the Bashan and Yu waters.

The Chongqing Cableway scenic area has two entrances/exits: one at Xinhua Road (15 meters from Exit 5B of Light Rail Line 1 at Xiaoshizi) and another at Nanbin Road. It is divided into three sections: the Yangtze River North Bank Cableway Cultural Exhibition Area, the Yangtze River South Bank Cableway Film and Television Culture Exhibition Area, and the Yangtze River Aerial Sightseeing Area.

The scenic area also features photo galleries titled *Old Chongqing in Memory* and *Fashionable New Chongqing*. The visitor center is equipped with multimedia touchscreens, allowing tourists to easily explore the history of Chongqing’s river-crossing cableways and the city’s distinctive cultural landscapes.

The Yangtze River Cableway operates from 07:30 to 22:30. Ticket prices are 20 RMB for a one-way trip and 30 RMB for a round trip.
