Shuikou Temple

Shuikou Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Shuikou Temple was built on January 13 of the 50th year of the Qianlong reign (1785 AD). Legend has it that at the time, the “Shuitong Getian” area of Duohua Village (now roughly the Coconut Island area) frequently suffered from floods. The villagers prayed fervently, hoping that the gods would control the waters and spare them from disaster. By coincidence, a local fisherman spotted a strange piece of wood floating in the river while fishing and salvaged it ashore to be used for carving a deity statue. After making the necessary preparations, a temple was built just dozens of meters away from Shuikou Harbor. The temple enshrines various deities including the “Shuikou Marquis,” “Lady of the Water Bottom,” “Marshal Wantiān,” and “Sage Couple Ming,” among others, with the Marquis as the principal deity. These are all revered figures whose illustrious deeds shine as brightly as the sun and moon, commanding immense respect. Their spiritual power is extraordinary, bestowing blessings upon the mortal world. The Shuikou Marquis first revealed his divine presence on the 13th day of the first lunar month during the eye-dotting ceremony, which is why this date is celebrated as his birthday. On this day every year, thousands of devout worshippers flock to Shuikou Temple from all directions to pay homage, offer congratulations, pray, and seek blessings, creating an exceptionally lively atmosphere.
