The former residence of Zhang Hongyou is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hainan Province.

The former residence of Zhang Hongyou is located in Yelin Town, Lingshui Li Autonomous County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty. It is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hainan Province.

Protected Area: Centered on the heritage site itself, extending east to the road, south to residential buildings, west to residential buildings, and north to residential buildings, covering a total area of 3,336.2 square meters (approximately 5.4498 acres).

Zhang Hongyou (1855–1927), styled Yifu and listed as Hongyou in the imperial examination records, was commonly known as “Zhang the Imperial Scholar.” He was a native of the county town of Lingshui. His ancestors migrated from Tandong Village, Datong Township, Tieshiu District, Qiongshan, and settled in Lingshui; he was the fourth generation of the Zhang family to live in Lingshui. For the first three generations, his family worked as “clerks” in the grain office of the county government, but they were not considered a wealthy lineage. By his generation, in pursuit of a more prosperous life, he combined scholarship with commerce, engaging in businesses such as running sugar mills, raising ducks, and trading rattan and timber. As a result, he gradually became wealthy and continued to purchase land, eventually becoming one of the larger landlords in Lingshui.

Yelin Town: Located in the southeast of Lingshui, Yelin Town is the political, economic, and cultural center of the county, with a population of 96,000, accounting for one-third of the county’s total population. The population is mainly composed of Han and Li ethnic groups, with ethnic minorities making up 20% of the total. The town covers a total area of 77.1 square kilometers.
