Wanning Dongshan Ridge

Dongshan Ridge is located on the eastern coast of Hainan Province, 1.5 kilometers from downtown Wanning, covering an area of 10 square kilometers. It consists of three adjacent peaks, standing 184 meters above sea level, and boasts beautiful natural scenery, unique landscapes, and extraordinary cultural relics. The mountain features rugged rocks, deep caves, crimson cliffs, lush forests, and abundant springs. With flowers blooming all year round and a constant spring-like climate, it presents a variety of picturesque rock formations and scenic spots. Known as the "Overseas Peach Blossom Spring" and the "Number One Mountain in Hainan," Dongshan Ridge is graced with a divine beauty crafted by nature. Eight famous sights—Seven Valleys Nesting Clouds, Upright Tablet Piercing the Sky, Immortal Boat Moored to the Shore, Penglai Fragrant Cave, Jade Terrace Overlooking the Sea, Canopy Flying in Rosy Clouds, Sea Eye Flowing Vermilion, and Azure Water Encircling the Dragon—are renowned both at home and abroad. The climb usually begins at the "Initial Step of the Cloud Path," symbolizing a long and lofty journey.

Walking up the granite-paved path, you’ll see towering peaks and sky-high rocky pillars. Along the way, wildflowers bloom in profusion, and the trails twist and turn. Ancient and modern stone inscriptions are visible throughout the mountain, with notable ones including "Number One Mountain in Hainan," "Southern Sky Constellations," "Fairyland on Earth," and "Dongshan’s Verdant Majesty" being particularly magnificent.

Dongshan Ridge is home to famous Buddhist temples, the most renowned of which is Chaoyin Temple, built to commemorate Li Gang, a celebrated anti-Jin general of the Southern Song Dynasty. It attracts visitors year-round with its flourishing incense offerings. Attractions such as Maitreya Palace, the Statue of Li Gang, and the Dragon Cave Labyrinth never fail to amaze tourists. The area also features modern luxury hotels, where visitors can savor local delicacies such as Dongshan goat, Heluo crab, Hou’an mullet, Gangbei prawns, and Dongshan pancakes. Though not particularly high or steep among Hainan’s mountains, Dongshan Ridge has enjoyed unparalleled fame and admiration since ancient times. As early as the Jin Dynasty, literati left their inscriptions and carvings here. By the Ming Dynasty, Magistrate Zeng Guangzu of Wanzhou inscribed the words “Number One Mountain in Hainan,” which were carved onto the mountain. Since then, this title has become synonymous with Dongshan Ridge.
