Li Zhenya Memorial Park

Li Zhenya Memorial Park is a Hainan Provincial Patriotic Education Base and a Key Martyrs' Memorial Building Protection Unit in Hainan Province. It is located one kilometer east of Niulou Town, Wanning City, Hainan Province (at the 198-kilometer mark of the Haiyu East Highway). The managing authority is the Wanning Municipal Government.

In 1992, the People's Government of Wanning County (now Wanning City) constructed Li Zhenya Memorial Park to honor Li Zhenya, the First Deputy Commander of the Qiongya Column of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The memorial monument was erected in 2001. The park covers an area of 70 mu, with a construction area of 120 square meters, and features a reinforced concrete structure. Major structures include the memorial monument, a full-body bronze statue of martyr Li Zhenya, Nantian Pavilion, and a memorial pavilion. The monument is made of marble, standing 2.3 meters tall, symbolizing the “23 years of the red flag never falling” during the Qiongya Revolution. At the center of the park stands a 3.2-meter-tall full-body bronze statue of martyr Li Zhenya. The front of the statue’s base, made of marble, bears the inscription “Comrade Li Zhenya” written by [name redacted], while the back is engraved with a brief biography of Li Zhenya. On either side of the statue are two yellow-glazed tile pavilions with layered, upturned eaves—the “Remembrance Pavilion” to the east and the “Virtue Pavilion” to the west. Twenty-five meters behind the statue is the uniquely styled “Nantian Pavilion,” inscribed with the four large characters “浩气南天” (Lofty Spirit of the South). The inner rear wall of the pavilion features a marble plaque engraved with the condolence telegram sent by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to the Qiongya Regional Party Committee and the headquarters of the Qiongya Column in 1948 following Comrade Li Zhenya’s sacrifice, as well as inscriptions by 15 veteran comrades including [name redacted] and Wu Xiuquan.

Li Zhenya (1908–1948), originally named Li Rong, also known as Li Bochong, Li Cong, and Li Chong, was born in 1908 into a poor farming family in Dafeng Village, Jincheng Town, Teng County, Guangxi. He lost both parents at a young age and was raised by his grandfather. After attending a private school for two years, he dropped out due to poverty and left home to work odd jobs in Wuzhou before apprenticing as a tailor. In 1926, he enlisted in Li Mingrui’s unit. In 1929, he served as an adjutant in the Fourth Battalion of the Guangxi Gendarmerie.
