Jianling Nature Reserve

Jianling Nature Reserve is a provincial-level nature reserve.

Hainan Jianling Provincial Nature Reserve was established on September 25, 1981, with the approval of the Hainan Administrative Region Office (Hai Xing [1981] No. 151 document). It had a staff establishment of 9 people; in 2012, it was renamed as the Hainan Jianling Provincial Nature Reserve Management Station with the approval of the Hainan Provincial Government (Qiong Bian Ban [2012] No. 241 document), and is classified as a division-level (section chief level) institution. The reserve spans from 110°11′26″ to 110°23′12″ east longitude and 18°47′37″ to 19°02′15″ north latitude, located in Beidao Town, Wanning City, in the southeastern part of Hainan Island. Its jurisdiction extends east to Longgun Town within the city, south to Changfeng Town, west to Shangxi Provincial Nature Reserve, and north to Huishan Town in Qionghai City. The reserve includes 47 mountainous areas such as Niujiaoling, Kanhauling, Niujiaojianling, Huangzhuling, and Tongtianluoling, covering a state-owned forest area of 10,923 hectares. Elevations range from 50 meters to 805 meters, extending in a southwest–northeast direction, with higher elevations in the southwest. The management station has five protection and management sites: Houlang Management Station, Huangshan Management Station, Wangdao Management Station, Shanjia Management Station, and Jiangqian Management Station.

Second: In 2005, a central-level ecological public welfare forest was established; the planned area of central-level ecological public welfare forest in Hainan Jianling Provincial Reserve is 6,564 hectares.

Third: In 2007, a provincial-level ecological public welfare forest was established; the planned area of provincial-level ecological public welfare forest in Hainan Jianling Provincial Reserve is 4,521 hectares.

Fourth: In 2010, it was approved to be fully incorporated into key ecological public welfare forests for protection and management.

Main Conservation Targets and Functions:

The reserve primarily protects the forest ecosystem composed of tropical lowland rainforests, monsoon forests, and other forest types, as well as the rare and endangered wildlife and plants and natural landscape resources distributed within the area. It plays an important ecological role and delivers significant ecological benefits in water conservation and soil retention.
