Houhai Port in Wenchang is situated in the southeastern part of Touyuan Town, Wenchang City, approximately 8 kilometers from Wenchang Town. It has earned the reputation of a "marine forest park" thanks to its enchanting mangrove forests. The bay is located where eight rivers of different sizes—including the Wenchang River, Hengshan River, and Wenjiao River—converge into Qinglan Port. Its tidal flats are home to more than 170,000 acres of mangroves. At high tide, amidst the endless blue waters, clusters of lush green foliage emerge—these are the tops of the mangrove trees. Under the sunlight, the underwater greenery casts myriad shadows that dance with the breeze, creating ever-changing, graceful scenes. When the tide recedes, dense patches of emerald-green mangroves gradually reveal themselves, starting with the taller ones and then the shorter ones, growing more and more numerous and tightly packed. Slowly, a winding green belt of forest emerges within the bay. As the water continues to retreat, this verdant band expands until the entire bay turns into an endless sea of green, stretching as far as the eye can see—a vast expanse of green ocean against the blue sky. Up close, the mangroves display twisted trunks and intertwined aerial roots, leaning on and supporting one another. Some resemble an old sage stroking his beard, others a smiling Maitreya Buddha, some like children wrestling, others as if the deity Erlang is splitting a mountain, some look like dragons or pythons, others like lions or monkeys, and still others like cranes or eagles… Their forms are truly diverse and fantastical. The treetops are dotted with small white, purple, and blue flowers, which shine brilliantly under the sunlight.
