Here, vast stretches of coconut palms display a variety of postures, with over 500,000 trees of different varieties including red coconuts, green coconuts, dwarf improved varieties, tall coconuts, and water coconuts. Local farmers can swiftly climb over 20-meter-high coconut trees with their bare hands to pick the fruits, and their skilled techniques will amaze you. Drinking fresh coconut water in the grove will make you feel completely refreshed. Locals call coconut water “heavenly water” — sweet, delicious, and rich in beneficial elements. It is said that regular consumption can even help one retain youthfulness.

The Coconut Grove Scenic Area in Dongjiao, Wenchang, Hainan, features endless stretches of lush coconut palms along the ten-kilometer coastline of Jianhua Mountain, forming an infinite green belt that serves as a natural barrier along the shore. Deep within the coconut groves of Jianhua Mountain lies the Bailaima Resort, covering more than 70 acres. With its coconut-scented sea breeze, it’s a perfect place to experience the charm of the coast.

In 1989, the second year after Hainan became a province, as the first developed tourist resort in Hainan, the Coconut Grove in the Eastern Suburbs gradually became bustling. Its peak years were from 1995 to 1997, after which it slowly declined. Today, it has finally returned to tranquility, yet the Coconut Grove in the Eastern Suburbs remains as beautiful as ever.

It has been described as “Half of Hainan’s coconuts are in Wenchang, and the most scenic are in the Eastern Suburbs.” The scenic area boasts beautiful surroundings and crystal-clear seawater. It is a natural beach for swimming and offers various beach sports and water activities. The area already has a tourist dock, several seaside resorts, and seafood restaurants. The shallow sea is abundant with precious seafood such as lobsters, prawns, grouper, and abalone.

This scenic area attracts many tourists with its typical coconut-sea breeze atmosphere, coconut-flavored cuisine, and a wide variety of seafood. Walking into the grove, you’ll see coconut trees of all sizes, heights, straight or curved, slanted or twisted, growing naturally and forming the forest.
