On the easternmost part of Hainan, where the waves crash fiercely against the shore, a mountain rises abruptly from the sea — this is Tongguling, hailed as the First Peak of Eastern Hainan. To the south of the mountain lies an expanse of azure blue, where the sea and sky merge endlessly, the sound of waves never ceases, and the surf froths like snow. The crystal-clear, sapphire-colored waters are so inviting that you’ll be tempted to dive right in for a refreshing swim. This is Yunlong Bay. Yunlong Bay is situated within the Tongguling Nature Tourism Area in Wenchang City, Hainan. Compared to Hainan’s more famous landmarks such as Wuzhishan Mountain, Wanquan River, and Tianya Haijiao, Yunlong Bay remains relatively unknown and low-profile — and that’s precisely what makes it so alluring. Owing to its remote location and few visitors, its natural landscape has been spared from the damage of mass tourism and remains well-preserved. Shaped like a crescent moon, the bay enjoys calm waters and exceptional clarity. The sloping shores are lined with dense groves of coconut and casuarina trees, while beyond the bay lies the vast Qizhou Ocean. To the northeast are the Qizhou Islands, a chain of seven peaks standing opposite one another. The area boasts a well-protected ecological environment.

Hainan Wenchang
