Coconut Grand View Garden

The Coconut Grand View Garden was reconstructed from the original coconut germplasm resource base by the Coconut Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences under the Ministry of Agriculture. Located in Wenchang City, Hainan Province — known as the “Hometown of Coconuts” in China — it neighbors the famous Dongjiao Coconut Grove scenic area. Established in 1980, the garden spans 54.4 hectares and is an ecological attraction rich in coconut culture. It centers around coconut groves and integrates scientific research, public education, tourism, and leisure activities.

The garden is divided into seven functional areas: the Interpretation Center Zone, Coconut Grove Viewing Zone, Palm Viewing Zone, Horticultural Viewing Zone, Lakeside Leisure Zone, Product Development Zone, and Technology R&D Zone. It houses over 200 species of palm plants and more than 130 types of Hainan’s characteristic tree species, making it the plant park with the largest collection of palm varieties in China. The garden fully explores the rich cultural heritage of the coconut region, showcasing the dietary culture, product culture, historical culture, and spiritual essence of coconuts. With lush coconut palms, blooming flowers, verdant foliage, birdsong, and fragrant blossoms, visitors will find the experience refreshing and captivating.

Using the garden as a platform, dozens of scientific research projects have been undertaken in collaboration with national, ministerial, provincial, and international partners, achieving numerous scientific and technological advancements. These contributions have played a positive role in the development of China's coconut industry and in helping local farmers achieve prosperity.
