The Han Family Residence

The Han Family Residence is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Han Family Residence is located in Fujia Village, Bao Fang Office, Dongge Town, Wenchang City, Hainan Province. It was built in 1936 by Han Qinzhen, a wealthy Wenchang businessman residing in Thailand, during his return to his hometown and took two years to complete.

The Han Family Residence covers a total area of 1,335 square meters. The architectural style follows the traditional Hainan layout of a single longitudinal axis with multiple courtyards. Each of the four courtyards has a main hall with three bays and 16 wing rooms, surrounded by tall courtyard walls for protection. On the roof of the eastern wing, there are two square pavilions. The design not only reflects the residential characteristics of central China and Hainan Island but also incorporates artistic elements of Southeast Asian and Western architecture, making it a typical representation of overseas Chinese architecture in Hainan.

In May 2013, the Han Family Residence was announced as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Dongge Town: The town is located in the eastern part of Wenchang City, covering an area of 109 square kilometers. It borders Wenjiao Town to the east, Wencheng Town to the west, Baoluo Town to the north, and faces Qinglan Port to the south, across which lie Dongjiao and Qinglan. The town has 20 village (residential) committees and 159 natural villages, with a total population of 25,000.

1. Land Resources. The town has a total of 25,000 mu of arable land, with extensive sloping land areas, most of which are sandy soil, fertile and rich.
