The Wenchang Space Science Popularization Museum is Hainan’s first comprehensive thematic exhibition hall dedicated to space culture, historical milestones, and commemorative collections. Located at Building 25, Aerospace Modern City, No. 169 Wenwei Road, Wencheng City, Hainan Province, it is approximately 24 kilometers from the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center. The facility mainly includes three floors of exhibition halls, a sales showroom, technical rooms, service facilities, and office spaces.

The space science museum vividly showcases China’s space industry—its past, present, and future—through diverse exhibition methods. It is divided into three major exhibition areas and one space breeding garden. The first-floor exhibition is the “60 Years of China’s Space Science Popularization Exhibition,” the second-floor features the “Special Exhibition on People’s Scientist Qian Xuesen,” the third-floor hosts the “60 Years of Space Mail via Postal Delivery Exhibition,” and the space breeding garden displays plants cultivated through space breeding techniques.

The first-floor exhibition hall showcases the development journey and remarkable achievements of China’s space program.

This exhibition area presents the challenging, magnificent, and glorious 60-year history of China’s space industry through a chronicle of major events. With precious historical materials and rich illustrations, it documents the Chinese people’s relentless efforts to reach space, allowing visitors to witness China’s prominence among the world’s leading space powers. Highlights include the inspiring manned space program, where astronauts soar into space aboard Shenzhou spacecraft; the exploratory lunar exploration program, which follows the three-step approach of orbiting, landing, and returning, advancing step-by-step to the Moon and fostering future engineers while strengthening patriotic resolve; and the breathtaking rendezvous of Tiangong and Shenzhou spacecraft, where the dream of space travel begins and future space applications take flight.

The second-floor exhibition commemorates People’s Scientist and founding figure of China’s “Two Bombs, One Satellite” program, Qian Xuesen, showcasing his life and legacy. Over his nearly century-long, remarkable journey, Qian Xuesen closely tied his dreams with those of the nation and its people, dedicating himself tirelessly to conquering space, revitalizing the nation, and strengthening the country. In addition to comprehensive historical materials that authentically depict Qian’s life, the exhibition includes a recreation of his study—a simple and unadorned space reflecting his disregard for fame and wealth. A stone sculpture of Qian on the desk conveys a scientist’s deep contemplation for his nation’s endeavors. After exploring the scientist’s life, visitors can also enjoy a 50-seat theater that vividly presents Qian Xuesen’s legendary life through video.

The third-floor exhibition is the “60 Years of Space Mail via Postal Delivery” exhibition, featuring a rich collection of philatelic items that illustrate the founding, development, and achievements of China’s space program. Over 60 years, following the growth of China’s space industry, postal authorities and related organizations have issued a series of commemorative stamps, envelopes, and other philatelic items. These items record the glorious history of China’s space endeavors, reflect the evolving landscape of the space program, and bear witness to its tremendous accomplishments. Small stamps and unassuming commemorative envelopes, when brought together, paint a brilliant picture of China’s space progress. This section includes a map of the locations of major entities within China’s space system, signed envelopes from key space events, profiles of the 23 “Two Bombs, One Satellite” meritorious figures, and beautifully designed books on space—all telling the story of space history through philately.

Part of the third-floor exhibition area is an event hall that accommodates around 150 people. With abundant video resources and professional instructors, it hosts a science popularization event where visitors can engage in hands-on space activities, small classroom lectures, presentations, and watch various space-related documentaries.

Space Breeding Garden

Food is the paramount necessity of the people, and seeds are the foundation of agriculture. High-quality crop varieties are decisive factors in agricultural development, playing an irreplaceable role in increasing yields and improving quality. Utilizing space mutation technology for crop breeding is of great significance in accelerating China’s breeding progress, enhancing breeding quality, and exploring new, uniquely Chinese research areas in breeding. Visitors can experience the wonder of space breeding, where tiny seeds grow into a variety of beautiful fruits. The breeding garden also hosts space seed planting activities, allowing visitors to connect intimately with nature and cultivate a love for life and the Earth.
