Lenin Township Revolutionary History Memorial Hall

The Wenchang Lenin Township Revolutionary History Memorial Hall is located within the campus of Gongpo Central Primary School in Wenchang City.

In 1927, the Qiongya Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party dispatched Communist Party members Xu Xiufu and Luo Wenyan to carry out revolutionary activities in the Gongpo area (later renamed Lenin Township). They went from village to village, door to door, spreading revolutionary ideals, and within a very short time, they organized the broad masses of poor peasants in the township, establishing mass organizations such as peasant associations, women’s groups, the Communist Youth League, and children’s corps. They also formed a peasant self-defense force, which quickly sparked a storm of anti-imperialist and anti-feudal struggle. On this foundation, the Lenin Township Party Branch was established, along with the Lenin Township Soviet Government, with Zhou Defeng serving as both the Party Branch Secretary and Chairman of the Soviet Government. After the establishment of the Lenin Township government, work on mass organizations and other initiatives developed further. In order to expand the Soviet area, in July and August 1927, Xu Xiufu, Luo Wenyan, and others led the peasant self-defense force to expand into the surrounding areas of Lenin Township. In December 1927, the Kuomintang launched an attack on the Lenin Township Soviet area with a full regiment of troops, massacring the revolutionary masses and Communist Party members of Lenin Township. Xu Xiufu, Zhou Defeng, and others were successively killed, and Lenin Township suffered heavy losses. The red political power of Lenin Township was devastated, and local revolutionary activities went underground.

The memorial hall was completed in July 2003. It has a reinforced concrete structure, with two floors. The front top of the building features a red five-pointed star, and the center displays large characters reading “Wenchang Lenin Township Revolutionary History Memorial Hall.” The building faces south and is situated on relatively flat terrain, covering a construction area of 230 square meters. To the north and east are the playgrounds of Gongpo Central Primary School, while to the south and west are trees such as banyans, coconuts, and bamboo. The memorial hall is currently well preserved.
