Lingyi County Museum

The Lingyi County Museum was established in 1983 and is located at No. 269, Shuangta North Road, Lingyi County. It houses precious Eastern Zhou Dynasty artifacts unearthed from the Chengcun Cemetery, dating back 2,500 years; a stone stele from the first year of the Jianning era during the Eastern Han Dynasty, inscribed in Han clerical script—vigorous and elegant, nearly 2,000 years old to date—which is the earliest known inscribed stone stele discovered in Shanxi Province and also a treasure among surviving Han Dynasty steles in China; the Huo Yang Stele from the fifth year of the Jingming era during the Northern Wei Dynasty, commemorating the magistrate of Miyun, which represents the essence of Wei-style calligraphy—its brushwork vigorous and ancient, radiating vitality, and is rarely extant, making it especially precious as a national masterpiece of calligraphic art. It was designated as one of China’s first group of famous calligraphic steles in 1979; as well as peerless treasures such as the exquisitely crafted silver coffin from the Song Dynasty, unearthed from the West Tower of Miaodao Temple Twin Towers and the underground palace of Banshan Renshou Temple.
