Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden, China's first national AAAA-level scenic area themed around the popular science exhibition, conservation, breeding, sightseeing, and leisure vacation of rare wildlife, has been certified under ISO9001 quality management and ISO14001 environmental management systems. It is China's only natural museum that presents a panoramic view of the island’s tropical rainforest ecosystem and condenses the essence of Hainan’s flora and fauna.

Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden is located by the picturesque Dongshan Lake, just 27 kilometers from downtown Haikou. It is China's first park themed around tropical wildlife exhibitions and popular science education, a key tourism project in Hainan Province, and a national science education base, with extremely convenient transportation nearby. The park’s landscapes are naturally formed—vast forests and dense vegetation provide animals with an ideal wild habitat, while man-made jungle trails and a variety of exotic plants make visitors feel as if they are in a vibrant, lively nature filled with birdsong and floral scents, entering a colorful, thrilling animal world. The park covers an area of over 2,000 acres, including an animal viewing area of 1,300 acres, home to 200 species and more than 4,000 individual rare birds and animals.

Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden breaks away from the traditional caged enclosures found in urban zoos, giving wildlife the freedom to live in tropical jungles and fully showcasing their wild nature, highlighting the charm of various rare birds and animals—the bloody “lion feeding frenzy,” the playful fun of the “world’s number one monkey mountain,” the thrill of “crocodile fishing,” the spectacular sight of “birds singing in chorus,” the romance of “lion-tiger love,” the cruelty of plant strangulation… all can be witnessed within the park. The scenic area is located in Haikou, the “Sunshine Entertainment Capital” with eternal spring-like weather, situated in the golden tourism circle of northern Hainan Island, the “Paradise for Vacation.” It boasts picturesque scenery and convenient transportation. Covering an area of over 5,000 acres, the park is home to more than 200 species and 4,000 individual rare birds and animals, as well as 280 families and over 700 varieties of rare plants, with a forest coverage rate of up to 99%. Ligers

The “super hybrid darlings,” ligers, are the park’s biggest stars. Ligers are biological miracles, as the fertilization rate of lion-tiger mating is one in 100,000, and the survival rate of ligers is about one in 500,000. At Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden, after the epic “love song of lion and tiger,” male lion “Xiao Erhei” and female tiger “Huanhuan” gave birth to three healthy liger cubs in 2005, and then incredibly delivered four liger cubs in the early hours of March 23, 2006, setting a world record for four ligers being born and surviving healthily at the same time.

Flamingo Restaurant

The Flamingo Restaurant features a naturally elegant design, with its color scheme, style, and building materials all reflecting a tropical vibe. The dark green roof and pillars are noble and refined; tables, wine cabinets, and the bar counter are all custom-made from natural wood and eco-friendly materials; large tropical plants with lush foliage surround the restaurant, creating a verdant atmosphere. In the center of the restaurant is a quaint bridge-and-stream landscape: pebble pathways, wooden bridges, rustic pottery, gently babbling water under the bridge, and colorful fish swimming freely. Especially at night, the laser lights at the bottom of the pool create a dazzling display of colorful light and shadow, making it feel like a fairyland. During the day, the fully enclosed floor-to-ceiling glass windows block out the intense summer heat, making the restaurant even cooler and more comfortable. From inside the restaurant, visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery outside—the swaying coconut groves, surrounding palms, endless greenery, and the pink-feathered flamingos from South America preening nonchalantly...

Scenic Highlights

The park features various viewing areas including drive-through, walking, lakeside resort, and central service zones. The animal viewing area naturally houses over 200 species of rare birds and animals, including fierce beasts and tropical endangered species. Visitors can take vehicles through the drive-through area to see African lions, Siberian tigers, black bears, and other wild animals in their natural state, or explore on foot to observe Asian elephants, giraffes, crocodiles, hippos, monitor lizards, pythons, emus, miniature horses, and more. They can also interact with monkeys in the artificial monkey mountain or stroll through the tropical-themed bird world to watch various tropical bird performances. A variety of unique tropical-flavored snacks are available for visitors to enjoy.

Best Travel Season

Haikou has a tropical humid monsoon climate. The rainy season runs from May to October each year, especially September, which is the peak rainfall month. Moreover, the period from June to September is typhoon season, during which Haikou often experiences strong typhoons of force 8 or above, with an average of one typhoon every 10 days. Therefore, the best time to visit Haikou is from November to April of the following year.

Bus Routes

1. Take a minibus from Haikou Hongcheng Lake or the opposite stop of the South Station (Fucheng–Dongshan) and get off at the Wildlife Park stop. Operating hours: 6:00–18:30, every 15 minutes from each terminal, 60-minute journey, fare: 9 RMB.

2. Take Tourist Bus Line 2 from Wanlv Garden: departs daily at 9:00, 105-minute journey, ticket price 16 RMB (note that schedules may vary depending on peak and off-peak seasons; please call the tourist bus company in advance for accurate information).

3. Buses from Fucheng to Dongshan pass by the zoo entrance, with the last bus departing Dongshan no later than 6:00 PM, stopping right at the zoo entrance and going directly to the Haikou Qiongshan minibus terminal.

Self-driving Navigation:

1. Take G224 (Haikou–Yacheng Middle Road)—drive straight for 27 kilometers—turn left at the signpost and drive 3 kilometers—arrive at the park entrance.

2. Take the East Expressway—exit at Shizilu Exit—follow the signposts to the park entrance.

Gate Price: 128 RMB

A. Children under 1.2 meters (not including 1.2m), seniors aged 70 and above (including 70, with ID card or senior citizen preferential certificate) can enter the park for free

B. Holders of teacher ID cards, student ID cards (full-time domestic), and people with disabilities (with disability certificate) can enjoy half-price admission at the scenic area
