The Luojing Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument

The Luojing Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is a classic destination on China’s red tourism routes.

The Luojing Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is a patriotic education base in Haikou City. It is located on the east side of the 21-kilometer 600-meter mark along National Highway Haiyu Middle Line, near Luojing Village in Yongxing Town, Xiuying District, Haikou. The managing authority is the Civil Affairs Bureau of Xiuying District, Haikou City.

The Luojing Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument was first built in 1952. The monument occupies an area of 0.68 mu, has a square column shape, and stands 7 meters tall in total. It is constructed from stone, brick, and cement, featuring a square base platform accessed via five steps. The front of the main body is inscribed with the words “Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs,” and the top of the monument is adorned with a red five-pointed star. A low wall with railings surrounds the structure.

Between 1941 and 1949, the Qiongya Column (also known as the Qiongya Anti-Japanese Independent Regiment and Independent Column) engaged in numerous fierce battles against Japanese forces, puppet troops, and stubborn Kuomintang troops in areas around Luojing such as Daqiao, Fulu, Qiaozi, Xianliang, Tinglin, Yongxing, Jinxingding, and Luojing itself. These battles eliminated large numbers of enemy combatants. One of the most notable engagements was the ambush near Daqiao carried out by the Second and Third Regiments of the Qiongya Anti-Japanese Independent Regiment on September 17, 1942, which destroyed three Japanese vehicles and killed or injured over 40 Japanese soldiers. Throughout these battles in the region, the Qiongya Column suffered heavy casualties. This monument was erected in honor of the revolutionary martyrs who lost their lives in those fights.
