Li Xiangqun Martyrs' Memorial Park is a classic red tourism destination.

Li Xiangqun Martyrs' Memorial Park is a patriotic education base of Hainan Province and Haikou City. It is located west of "Xiangqun Primary School" in Dongshan Town, Xiuying District, Haikou City. The managing authority is the Civil Affairs Bureau of Xiuying District, Haikou City.

Li Xiangqun Martyrs' Memorial Park was jointly funded by the Publicity Department of the Hainan Provincial Committee, the Haikou Municipal Party Committee, Haikou Municipal Government, Xiuying District Party Committee, Xiuying District Government, and the cadres and masses of Qiongshan District. It was completed on March 18, 2004. The memorial park faces south and covers a total area of 3 mu, with a total construction area of 500 square meters. In the square stands a statue of Li Xiangqun, which is 4.5 meters tall in total and consists of a two-tiered base and the figure itself. The entire base is a platform faced with black marble. The front of the second tier features an inscription by [a leader]: “Strive to cultivate and foster more heroic soldiers like Li Xiangqun.” The back provides a “brief biography” of Li Xiangqun. Above the second-tier base is a full-body bronze statue of Li Xiangqun, who is 2.9 meters tall, 2.65 meters wide, and weighs 2.5 tons, depicted carrying sandbags and fighting on the front lines of flood control. Directly in front of the bronze statue is a 318-square-meter marble-paved square. On both sides of the memorial park are 20 green trees symmetrically arranged in rows, spaced 18 meters apart, symbolizing that Li Xiangqun joined the army at the age of 18 and sacrificed his life at just 20 years old.

Li Xiangqun (1978–1998)

A native of Qiongshan City, Hainan Province, Li Xiangqun was a soldier of a unit under the Guangzhou Military Region of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, holding the rank of Private First Class. He enlisted in 1996. He was awarded three commendations and one third-class merit during his service, and was recognized as an “Outstanding Soldier.” In August 1998, he joined his unit in Hubei to participate in flood relief efforts and was admitted to the Communist Party of China on the front lines. Later, he fell ill from overwork on the embankment and passed away despite medical treatment. His former unit’s Party Committee posthumously awarded him first-class merit.
