Haikou Immortal Cave

Haikou Immortal Cave is located in Rongtang Village, Shishan Town, and got its name from the legend of a Taoist priest who attained immortality inside the cave. The cave is divided into upper and lower sections. The lower section features caves within caves and skies beyond skies, creating an utterly bewildering and astonishing sight. Most parts of the cave are pitch dark, making it intimidating to proceed without the aid of torches or flashlights to grope ahead.

You can see various types of lava stalactites hanging and clinging to the rock walls, seemingly about to fall yet never quite doing so, which is truly amazing. The cave is not only remarkable for its rocks but also for its water — the clear, crisp sound of dripping water can be heard at any time, producing different tones as it falls onto rocks of varying textures, creating a wonderfully enchanting melody. The upper section of the Immortal Cave is split into dozens of lava tunnels due to multiple collapses in the cave ceiling, hence it is also known as the "Seventy-Two Caves."

These caves vary in appearance — some resemble interconnected spiderwebs, others like spacious underground restaurants, and still others like bizarre ancient castle palaces. Sunlight streams into the cave through skylights formed by collapsed sections of the tunnels, illuminating the otherwise dark interior with remarkable clarity, creating a spectacular and magical scene.
