Dongze Lake

The dragon is a symbol of China, and the Chinese people are descendants of the dragon. The homeland of the dragon is Dongze Lake, located next to Dongguanzhuang Village in Dongzhen, Wenxi County. The "Zuo Zhuan" (Commentary of Zuo), in the 29th year of Duke Zhao's reign, records this as the place where Dongfu tamed the dragon. Today, the site includes the ruins of the Temple of Dongfu, the former site of Guoxian Bridge, the Twin Lotus Stone Stele, and the legend of the Lotus Fairy. It is a historical and cultural, lotus-themed ecological scenic area centered around dragon culture. The Dongze Lake area enjoys well-developed transportation and communication links. It is adjacent to the Datong-Yuncheng Expressway, secondary and tertiary roads, the Wenjiang Secondary Road, and the Nan-Tong-Pu Railway, making it very convenient for visitors from all regions. Especially notable is the area’s abundant production of lotus roots. During summer and autumn, about 80% of the white-sand flats are covered by lotus plants, with rows of willows lining both banks and fragrant lotuses stretching across the ten-mile-wide lake. The homeland of the dragon blends harmoniously with the scent of lotus blossoms. In winter, the lotus roots from Dongze Lake are as white as jade, with many holes, fine texture, crisp, tender, sweet flavor, and rich nutrition—excellent for both eating and tonic purposes. Currently, the processed green food product “Crispy Lotus Root” has become a bestseller in Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan, and other provinces and cities. Dongze Lake is becoming a special economic tourism zone amid ongoing economic restructuring.
