Immortal Cave in Rongtang Village

Immortal Cave is located in Rongtang Village, Shishan Town, and got its name from the legend of a Taoist priest who attained immortality inside the cave. The cave is divided into upper and lower sections. The lower section features caves within caves and skies beyond skies, creating an awe-inspiring and bewildering atmosphere. Most parts of the cave are pitch black, making it intimidating to move forward—only torches or flashlights can help you cautiously explore what lies ahead.

You’ll see various types of lava stalactites and stalagmites hanging from or clinging to the cave walls, seemingly about to fall yet never doing so, which is truly astonishing. The cave is remarkable not only for its rocks but also for its water—you can constantly hear the crisp sound of dripping water. The droplets falling on rocks of different textures produce varying tones, creating a wonderfully melodious soundscape. The upper section of the Immortal Cave is split into dozens of lava tunnels due to multiple collapses of the cave ceiling, hence it is also known as the "Seventy-Two Caves."

These caves vary in shape—some resemble interconnected spider webs, some look like spacious underground restaurants, while others are akin to bizarre ancient castle palaces. Sunlight streams into the cave through skylights formed by collapsed sections of the tunnels, illuminating the dark interior and revealing a spectacular and mystical scene.
