Ancient Town of Rongjin

This thousand-year-old ancient town of Rongjin is located in Rongjin Village, Zhangjia Town, Pingle County, Guangxi. Established in the late Tang and early Song dynasties, it boasts a history of over a thousand years. The millennia-old streets remain well-preserved to this day, lined with clusters of ancient banyan trees and dotted with ponds scattered like stars. The ancient streets, banyan trees, and pearl-like ponds complement one another, creating a distinctive scene characteristic of ancient market towns in southern China, from which the town derives its poetic name “Rongjin” (Banyan Port).

The Ancient Town of Rongjin is located over ninety kilometers from Guilin. It gets its name from Rongjin Village in Zhangjia Town, Pingle County. Established in the late Tang and early Song dynasties, it has a history of over a thousand years. Nestled at the confluence of the Rongjin River and Shajiang River, two tributaries of the Li River, the town was once a bustling inland river port in eastern Guangxi. In ancient times, boats could travel north to Guilin, or south and east to Wuzhou and Guangzhou.
